It is looking increasingly likely that the opening dates of our Western Springs season will be impacted if Auckland is still held in any form of level 3 into November.
Under the current Government level 2 restrictions it may be possible to open with some Covid provisions in place.
When Auckland moves to a level 2 status we will consult with our Health & Safety advisors, our stadium landlord, and our own track management team.
If it is agreed that we could operate without compromising the safety of our staff, spectators, or competitors, and remain compliant with Level 2 operating conditions, then we would look to open.
To cover for the loss of November meetings we have made an application to Council for additional dates. Approval of these additional dates require an exemption to the Unitary Plan that controls Speedway activity at Western Springs.
However, we are confident that while everyone is being asked to play their part in the fight against Covid, that Auckland Council will come to the party and look favourably upon our request.
Looking further ahead into December, all indications are that a mandated entry system will be in place for live outdoor entertainment. A concert booked for December 4th at Western Springs is currently scheduled to run as planned using new outdoor event conditions.
No doubt you are all as desperate as we are to get the Western Springs Speedway season up and running. While it may look a little gloomy at the moment, this situation will improve, if we can all just hang tough and ride out this current turbulence, there are brighter days ahead!
With a sold out Midget Tour, a brand new Sprintcar Masters Series, full fields in all of the other classes and some great enhancements to the stadium, this summer of Speedway at Western Springs will end up one to remember for all the right reasons, and the dark days of Covid will be a forgotten memory.
